Sugar Shop - Brooklyn Sweetness

Last week during Memorial Day weekend here in the US, my daughter and I took a nice walk in Cobble Hill in Brooklyn. We walked on Court Street on our way to one of the local playgrounds, and on our way saw a cute sign pointing us toward a sweets shop on Baltic Street. Since we are both doomed with a very powerful sweet tooth we had to check it out. That is how she and I discovered our newest favorite candy store, Sugar Shop. This place much like Deweys in Dumbo, features some old time favorites like salt water taffy and other items like Big League Chew, Pop rocks and other candy bars. There is a little bit of everything for everyone so if you have a sweet tooth and love the feel of those old time sweet shops this is the place for you. I also have to comment on the lovely employee who helped my daughter and I, Candace. Not only was she friendly and helpful, but she also has awesome taste in vintage t-shirts. Check her out below sporting a great Voltron one.

Zesty Lemon Bars - Martha Stewart Recipe Tried and Tested

While this one is not an original recipe of mine, I wanted to make these because they just sounded amazing. I also love eating citrus flavored anything during winter because it is such a simple and effective way of lifting your spirits when the weather is bringing you down. I got the recipe for these Zesty Lemon Bars for the Martha Stewart website, and my verdict is that they are delicious and very much worth every second you spend making them. The crust provides a delectable, buttery, flavorful vessel for the lemon topping which is sweet and tart at the same time. These will go well at tea time or ...... oh who am I kidding, they are a good any time treat. Check out the recipe and enjoy them if you decide to make them.

Something to look forward to

With the holidays already well underway I have something to definitely look forward to. I ordered Macarons- Chic & Delicious French Treats by Annie Rigg as an early Christmas present to myself. Of course this means that those cookie gifts I am planning on putting together will definitely benefit from this addition to my culinary library (rest at ease family and friends).

I love Macarons because they are beautiful to look at, but most importantly they can also be tiny little pieces of heaven come to cheer up your sweet taste buds. I am almost as giddy as a five year old on Christmas Eve waiting for this book to arrive. I guess this also means that I will be posting with the results of this venture into the unknown. I love a challenge.
