Hooray! Red Hook Lobster Pound is Back!

This weekend was a real treat. Red Hook had a wonderful weekend for sure with the much anticipated return of Fairway Market. For me the most important event was the return of Red Hook Lobster Pound. If you remember I wrote a post way back when Hurricane Sandy "graced" us with its presence. Since then Ralph, Susan and their staff have been working tirelessly to get their store back up to working order. It was wonderful to see the place back to business and making its mouthwatering lobster creations. If you had not managed to make it to this place yet I definitely say you must. The food these guys make is insanely delicious and made by some of the nicest people you will ever meet. Susan and Ralph here is to you and your incredible spirit. Love you guys. We'll be back for more soon :)

Dun Well Doughnuts - I Drool

Thanks to the lovely people from With Love From Brooklyn and their great facebook posts, I have found a new favorite place to indulge my sweet tooth. Dun Well Doughnuts is very aptly named because my oh my can they make a good doughnut. And by good I mean really good in every sense. The flavor selection is fantastic, the sizes epic, the taste tremendous, and they are completely vegan (for those of you who might care). If you like your coffee with cow milk you will not be able to get it here, but there are plenty of other milk options on hand to make it worth your while. Trust me, you will not be disappointed and the people who own the store and those work there could not be more pleasant if they tried. This place is yet another gem on the Brooklyn crest and very worth while checking out.

Of course my daughter had to have the chocolate glazed.

Googa Mooga Update

Alright Peeps this event is getting closer and closer and my expectations of it are increasing by the minute. They have been adding some really great restaurants to their roster like Craft New York, Crif Dogs, Dinosaur BBQ.... well you get the idea. It is going to be packed with great food and word is that they are releasing their music line up on the 23rd.

Now here is some information that may make some of you out there, who were not able to get in on the early registration for tickets very happy. Their General ticket registration is due to open on Tuesday April 24th and I am guessing that it will be as much of a frenzy as the early registration was. So those of you out there hopping to get in on this better set your alarms and get your computers ready. I wish you all the best of luck.

Should you need more information visit The Great Googa Mooga Official website.

Couleur Cafe - Great Coffee and French Sweets

Today was another beautifully warm day which I was hell bent on enjoying even if I had to stay up late working the night before. I took the munchkin to the park and treated myself to a nice walk because all these wonderful meals I post about would have me weighing at 300pounds if I was not privileged enough to live in a very walkable city. I had an ulterior motive for going walking though, and that was to discover what the eateries in our area have to offer.

some reason Couleur Cafe caught my eye this time around and since I had not been there before and was in dire need of a good coffee I decided that the time was appropriate to go in and give a local business some support. I am very glad to have tried them because the people who own and work at this establishment could be some of my new favorite people. They are unpretentious and fun and make you feel right at home. Oh and what my little one and I ate there was just wonderful. We decided to get some pastries to go and shared a very delicious chocolate mouse. I had a cafe au lait that made me feel nostalgic because I have not been able to get one like it since I lived in Jersey City (Madame Claude's and Marco and Pepe in the old down town area serve wonderful versions of this drink). The cafe has a very french atmosphere and it delivers on taste because their mousse and pastries are very well executed. I will be coming back for more (even if I have to go three times around the park every day for a week to exercise all the calories off). I definitely recommend you try them if you are in Park Slope or make it to Brooklyn. Here are some pictures to further entice you.

Red Hook Does it Again - Baked = Bakers' Heaven

I don't know if it seems obvious yet, but I love a well made baked good. Today I would like to give some love to a place I have been infatuated with for almost a month. That place is Baked in the Red Hook area of Brooklyn. I first became aware of them through Cooking Channel's show Unique Sweets because everyone on the show was talking about their sweet treats, but in particular they were talking about the Brooksters (what you get when you marry one of Baked's brownies and one of their chocolate chip cookies). I thought this place needed to be checked out, so I decided to enlist my husband on the quest to keep an eye out for it since we are already going there to go shopping at the Fairway in Red Hook anyway.

Finding them was super easy, and so was falling in love with the wonderful food that they make. While it is mostly sweet treats that you will find here, there are some savory tidbits to be had and they are beautifully executed. I have tried the Brooksters and they are indeed good, but I think that my weak spot is for their PB Krispy Bar, because it is chocolatey, peanut buttery crispy goodness. Their brownies are what every brownie should seek to be, gooey chocolatey perfection, particularly the salted ones. Their coffee is also great so it is a winner in every sense. I recommend you try them if ever in NYC and, it does not matter what you have to do to get there, YOU MUST GO IF YOU LOVE BAKED GOODS. They will not let you down (unless you go when they are closed).
